Job Search: The Warrior Way!
What is the key to being successful in your job search? To answer that question fully I would need to write a textbook. Trying to sift through job posting and sending out resumes is difficult enough let alone writing about it. The fact is there is no single tool to help one get that dream job, however, many key components will help one land that job. One component will at least get you on the right path to becoming that Job Search Warrior is confidence and it comes in three forms.
Firstly, one needs to be confident in the product that he is selling. The Samurai Warrior always knew what weapons he had in his arsenal and knew how to use them with stealth and perfection. In the same way, the Job Search Warrior needs to perfect her knowledge of the product she is selling: HERSELF! Walking in to a potential employer without fully knowing the product is like going into battle without your armor. You may win that one small fight but you will walk away morally wounded or worse…….leave without landing that job .
The next form of confidence comes from knowing your employer. Sun Tsu in The Art of War states that in order to go in to battle and be victorious, one must know his enemy as he knows himself. Know the company you are interviewing for as you know yourself. Do the prep, ask the questions that get to the heart of what that employer needs, then use your “product knowledge” to put together proposal that will help the potential employer see what it is that you bring to the table. This is the strategy that the warrior must implement in order to be victorious and to land the job!
Finally, confidence, in its most important form has to come from you. Be confident in yourself! People want to do business with successful people. Walk into the business with your head up, shoulders back and let that potential employer know you are there to do business and that your time is just as valuable as theirs. We have all had challenging times. You know, the weeks where you’ve been on so many interviews that you feel you will never find work, your savings are starting to be a concern, and you are so stressed that you feel beaten down. The Art of War suggests the following when going into battle: where you are weak show that you are strong where you are strong show weakness; this way the enemy attacks your area of strength and ultimately will fall. The path to success in gaining employment lies within the warrior in you. Let Advantage Transitions help you in your battle! Good luck!
